School for the Visually Impaired,University of Tsukuba
Tsukuba School for the Blind, founded in 1876, was the first school for the blind in Japan .
For more than 120 years the staff at this school have been providing quality services for students who are blind and visually impaired.
Tsukuba School for the Blind, which is now attached to the University of Tsukuba, aims at providing visually impaired infants, pupils and students with general and vocational education corresponding to mainstream kindergarten, primary, middle, and high schools, respectively.
This school also does research on education for children with visual impairment and serves as a teaching practice school for students of the University of Tsukuba.
The educational goal of this school is to enable visually impaired children to overcome their handicaps, to grow as harmonious people, to become self-sufficient and integrate into society.
